A sofa can look fine from a few feet away and still be holding years of dust, skin, food and pet hair in the fabric. Vacuuming the cushions helps the surface. It does not get what has gone into the foam and the seams.

Arms, seat cushions and the front edge take the most use. That is where fabric goes dark and shiny. Spills dry in. Pet smell sits in the filling, not just on the cover. A spray and a blanket on top does not shift that.

We clean the piece as it is used: seats, backs, arms and the bits that get touched every day. Stains are treated first. The fabric is washed and the dirty water is pulled back out. The aim is furniture that looks fresher and is actually clean to sit on, not damp and left to dry with the dirt still in it.

Not every fabric is washed the same way. Delicate or colour-weak material is tested first. Some marks lift well. Ink, dye transfer and old pet stains sometimes only improve. We tell you that on the day.

After the clean
Let it dry before you sit on it for long. Most sofas are usable later the same day. Keep pets off until the fabric has dried through, not just on the surface. Cushion covers should stay on while they dry so they do not shrink out of shape.
